Way to go George!

Slowly, I am collecting all of the Night Visions books in hardback. Even though I have read all the stories from these great writers, I *have* to have this groundbreaking series of horror gems.
Ironically, when this book came out, the listing of the authors were the order of their popularity in their day, with Stephen King on top and Martin on bottom. But with Stephen King's downward trend in skills, and with Dan Simmons having abandoned horror *and* science-fiction for the time being, George R.R. Martin currently eclipses both, due to the popularity of his wonderful "Game of Thrones" series.
Way to go, George!

GOOD SHORT STORIES

3 stories by Stephen King: "The Reploids", "Sneakers" and "Dedication".
3 stories by Dan Simmons: "Metastasis", "Vanni Fucci is Alive and Well and Living in Hell" and "Iverson's Pits".
1 story by George R. R. Martin: "The Skin Trade".
While the stories by King and Simmons are more or less short, the story by Martin is long, taking up almost half of the volume.
The only (almost) original story is "Metastasis" by Simmons, where a medical experiment lets a man see strange violet creatures (usually invisible) feeding on human beings like vampire slugs, causing cancer.
"Sneakers" is a ghost story, while "Dedication" is about urban witchcraft and "The Skin Trade" is a story about werewolves and investigation.

Thought Night Visions 4 Was Better

So this joint was pretty cool. When I bought it I didn't realize that the Stephen King stories in the volume were already in another separate compilation of stories I'd already read. So that was a bit of a cheat. Serves me right, though- should've found out before I bought it. However, if you've never read any of these authors before or are a fan of them as well as the horror genre I say go for this book. I thoroughly enjoyed Simmons' stories. There's only one story from Master Martin (i.e. Game of Thrones), but it's fun. Pleasant nightmares, people.
