Former Army Ranger Tucker Wayne and his canine partner, Kane, face a new state-of-the-art threat in bestseller Rollins and Blackwood's inventive sequel to 2014's The Kill Switch. Global media magnate Pruitt Kellerman seeks to destabilize political hot spots and murder those in his way with a fleet of military drones. Secret teams under his control use research stolen from famed WWII cryptanalyst Alan Turing to develop drones capable of thinking autonomously, hacking enemy computer systems, and instigating chaos with social media disinformation. Tucker leads a team of intelligence analysts who race to decrypt the drones' malicious code. The action ranges from the swamps of Alabama and New Mexico nuclear test sites to the beaches of Trinidad and the mountains of Serbia. Kane, a Belgian Malinois, is the standout character, more than just a plot device and never anthropomorphized. His point-of-view chapters reveal his loyalty, fear, intelligence, and even a desire for revenge. Kane's a good boy! Agent: Russell Galen, Scovil Galen Ghosh. (Apr.)\n
Review
“[A]nother outstanding adventure. Fans of Tom Clancy, Brad Thor, or Rollins’ previous titles will enjoy this, and hopefully Wayne and Kane will appear again, perhaps in the next Sigma Force title.” (Booklist on WAR HAWK)
“Kane, a Belgian Malinois, is the standout character, more than just a plot device and never anthropomorphized. His point-of-view chapters reveal his loyalty, fear, intelligence, and even a desire for revenge. Kane’s a good boy!” (Publishers Weekly on WAR HAWK)
From the Author
About James Rollins
JAMES ROLLINS is a #1 New York Times bestselling author of international thrillers that have been translated into more than forty languages. Known for unveiling unseen worlds, scientific breakthroughs, and historical secrets, Rollins' knack for breakneck pacing and stunning originality has been hailed by critics and embraced by scores of millions of readers around the world.
The Critics Rave
The New York Times says that his "roguish charm comes from his efforts to persuade readers the story is credible [through] real-life sources for his novel's science, history and geography." Rollins' rare blend of action, suspense, and knowledge was also mentioned by the Huffington Post, which stated that "After Crichton passed away in 2008 he clearly passed the baton to James Rollins, who like Crichton, is a renaissance man."
NPR calls his work "adventurous and enormously engrossing..." and the New York Journal of Books had this to say: "If you're a fan of smart, entertaining adventure fiction, this is your summer beach read writ large....All the science, all the history, and all the locations are masterfully intertwined. The characters are multi-dimensional. And the story is, well, a corker."
The Story Teller's Story
As a boy immersed in the scientific adventures of Doc Savage, the wonders of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, and pulps such as The Shadow, The Spider, and The Avenger, James Rollins decided he wanted to be a writer. He honed his storytelling skills early, spinning elaborate tales that were often at the heart of pranks played on his brothers and sisters.
Before he would set heroes and villains on harrowing adventures, Rollins embarked on a career in veterinary medicine, graduating from the University of Missouri and establishing a successful veterinary practice. This hands-on knowledge of medicine and science helps shape the research and scientific speculation that set James Rollins books apart.
Explosive Page-Turning Adventures
The exotic locales of James Rollins novels have emerged as a hybrid between imagination, research, and his extensive travels throughout the United States and Europe, as well as New Zealand, the South Pacific, China, Southeast Asia, Africa, Australia, and South America. Recent jaunts include book tours and stops across the country and several European nations to give talks, seminars, and media interviews. In recent years, much of James' travel has involved meeting readers in small and large groups, at writing and fan conferences, and even aboard seagoing "seminars." James' mentoring and coaching skills have made him a sought after writing instructor and guest speaker for workshops, symposia, conventions, and other forums throughout the country.
James Rollins is the author of nine thrillers in the bestselling Sigma Force series (Sandstorm, Map of Bones, Black Order, The Judas Strain, The Last Oracle, The Doomsday Key, The Devil Colony, Bloodline, and The Eye of God); six individual adventure thrillers; and the Jake Ransom middle grade series (Jake Ransom and the Skull King's Shadow, Jake Ransom and the Howling Sphinx.)

Good Read.
By B. Hollabaugh
This was a good read. The research done on "war dog" behavior and interaction with a trainer (Ranger) is well-represented. Dog lovers will appreciate the special relationship and dynamic between Tucker and Kane as well as the insertion of the occasional thought process in Kane's mind. It's a bit anthropomorphic, but it strengthens the reader's connection with Kane. The plot explores some potential outcomes in our modern, digital world regarding possible warfare and digital infiltration using drones combined with advanced software technology. Scary, as it's not too far "out there".

Another enjoyable book of the bond of a special forces commando and his remarkable dog.
By Kevin O'Connell
This is the second of the "Tucker Wayne/Kane" series, where the relationship between a former Special Forces commando and his dog are the central characters. I loved the first book, but this book may have gone a bit too far in terms of trying to "rope in" other characters. You do learn more about the capabilities of dogs in military/police situations, which I find amazing.
The central premise is how a power hungry CEO is using advanced drone technology to try to spark a war to provide access to valuable minerals to feed his corporate empire. Wayne and Kane are central to stopping this conspiracy, but they are also oddly left aside at times, as two "geeks" are crucial to sabotaging the drones. The geeks are charmingly eccentric, and thus likable enough, but Wayne and Kane should always be the central characters of the book, not being relegated to mere "muscle" in support of the geeks. Thus, this book gets only four stars from me, not the five stars I gave the first book.

An Action Novel, A Buddy Story and A Warning
By G. Goodman
First of all, I am prejudiced because I have enjoyed all of James Rollins books. When Rollins first wrote Bloodline, about Tucker, an Ex-Ranger and his Canine, it really got my attention.
Reading stories about Men and Women in jeopardy is one thing, reading about a Dog, especially from the dog's point-of-view is something altogether different.
As a dog owner and lover, I honestly felt emotional as Kane, the hero dog gets put in tight situations to save his human pal. Perhaps it is me, but putting a loyal dog in danger affects me far more than contrived human exploits.
The story, is all too plausible and shows where the world may be going if Patriots do not step forward.
The book, moves right along. It read quickly and I wish there was more but I will have to wait for Rollin's next novel featuring Tucker and Kane.
