A Newer Sacred Name Scriptures.

I was curious enough to order The Cepher from the publisher.
One of my favorite activities is comparing versions of Scripture and I found this version to be unique in a number of ways.
I'll list some pros and cons from my personal perspective. I'm not an expert by any means so take it with a "grain of salt."

Cons: There really aren't many. But here are a few-
I personally prefer a heavily-footnoted study Bible. That comes in handy when there are differences between say the Masoretic Text and Septuagint.
The Cepher is not that kind of Scriptures. Not a major issue.
This version includes the Hebrew Gloss of I Samuel 6:19 and the Erasmus Addition of I John 5:7. I suspect that they started with the King James Version originally. It also uses the older English of the KJV, I much prefer modern English.

Now for the pros:
The first 22 pages are helpful. You will need the Table Of Contents to navigate the order of the books. This isn't uncommon as a lot of versions have re-arranged the order of books. The Preface has a lot of very interesting information in a small number of pages. Being a footnote junkie I really appreciate what the editor provides in the Preface. There is also a list of Hebrew Names, Paleo-Hebrew Aleph-Beyt and a Hebrew To English Table in those first 22 pages.

Two features that makes this version unique are the use of the sacred names throughout this entire version of Scriptures and it also includes the books of Jasher, Jubilees, and Enoch. Although I do have those three books on my bookshelf I appreciate having them at my fingertips with The Cepher.

There are little subtle changes in words that actually shed more light on some passages for me. One is Revelation 4:4 where The Cepher has "seven menorahs of fire" rather than "seven flaming lamps."

I understand why the order of Books was re-arranged. For instance the books of John are grouped together as well as the Pauline letters and the Hebrew letters(Peter, James, Jude). I find that convenient.

Another positive aspect of The Cepher is that it is available from the publisher a little bit cheaper and the website has a lot of information on this version of Scripture.
As far as cosmetics go, this leather looks great and the binding is high quality. That's a good thing because this is a heavy book.
I like using The Cepher for comparing Scripture passages, particularly from a Hebrew perspective.
The publisher also has an Android app with a Hebrew Lexicon available.

I love stories that walk the fine line between love and ...

I love stories that walk the fine line between love and hate. An attraction and a passion that is fiery and fierce. The battle of wills and the inevitable loss of control as they give into the attraction that drives them nearly mad. The change from facing off against each other to facing love and life together. The characters were up against all odds but, in this case, love really does conquer all. This is my second read through and I enjoyed it even more than the first...

However, I still would have liked...

More flashbacks from when they were partnered before. I think without more flashbacks to them fighting with one another and fighting their desire we missed out on some great foreplay. A tad more verbal sparring on the plane would have been fun too.

I also would have loved seeing them come out to their coworkers great surprise. It could have been quite a comedic opportunity.

I surely would have also enjoyed more of a reunion with Alex and her dad with her confessing she had burned pages of his book.

I would have loved a scene between Maggie and Paige somehow.

Overall, the book is enjoyable it just left me wanting more, in a good way.

Nice, easy read

After reading BORN OUT OF WEDLOCK and loving it, I immediately sought out another work by this author. I immediately read ICE in one sitting. I liked the story and the fact that there is minimal angst. It was a quick, easy read. I would have liked a little more length to the story, but appreciated the epilogue. Without it, the ending would have been too abrupt.

Unexpected!

At $3.99 this book is a bargain. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the blurb caught me and I am very pleased with the result.

Maggie and Alex are both Detective Inspectors in London, but don't let this fool you. This is novel has very little to do with their jobs and everything to do with their relationship. Immediately we are introduced to the tension and animosity between these two women. They are polar opposites in many respects. So once again don't expect anything do with police procedure.

This book reads very fast and is incredibly fun. I never once felt like it bogged down. From the moment the plane went down I was completely hooked and honestly I think my favorite part was the middle third of the book as these women fought for survival. Alex was especially amazing and I loved her stubborn drive to survive against all odds. I thought that the author handled the romance between the characters very well and their relationship developed realistically. There are a few "hot" scenes for those interested in such things. *wink*

I don't have many complaints. I think the editing was good and honestly only noticed a few mistakes. Nothing that I would call overly distracting though. I wasn't in love with the epilogue, but perhaps that is just me. For whatever reason it just didn't click. In fact would have been fine if it just ended at last chapter. But like I said it could just be me, I doubt most will have a problem with it.

I definitely recommend buying this one. I think it would have been worth it at $9.99 so at the price it is a fantastic bargain. Lastly the best thing I can say about this novel is that at about 1/3 of the way through I took a break to buy the author's second book. I was that impressed. Lyn Gardner is on my radar. 4/5

I'm a big fan of Manly P. Halls books, I've got quite a few and would have everyone if I could - a very may well have if I live long enough... the man is obviously a genius and should be read by anyone in search of the truth... I recommend it, of course!

Missing One Element

The concept here is to present two readings on a set of topics, giving students the opportunity to hear from both sides of an issue. The essays they used are all pretty good, whether they are from Milton Friedman, Joseph Stiglitz, or some lesser known folks.

I have two concerns.

Number one concern is in the supporting commentary. For example, there are two papers on whether or not the "stimulus package" was effective at creating jobs. The first says basically, "the labor market numbers improved after it was passed" without the theoretically underpinning to demonstrate causality. The second says, "there are papers that say no multiplier effect exists," without pointing out the assumptions those papers make.

So one paper is empirical and the other is theoretical, and the commentary made before and after does not tie them together, it merely summarizes. A student, especially a principles level student, would have great difficulty in dealing with that, in my view. Few freshmen and sophomores have the sophistication necessary to analyze these essays in a productive way.

That is not true for all the pairs, some of them match up nicely, but you'd have to be very careful in assigning these to make sure you did not put your students into an untenable position of simply having to pick one and go with it, without understanding the issues it creates.

The second concern is that it has a fixed form factor, which I assume is to make page 20 the same to everyone on every device. In the modern age, this is going to frustrate students who are used to the document morphing to match their device, not the other way around.

Overall, a nice piece of work, but the faculty member who assigns it needs to be aware of the shortcomings and plan accordingly with how it is integrated, noting that some of the essays can be read and understood without much input from the professor, while others will require significant intervention.

Pretty interesting reading for a text book. I *MIGHT* almost want to read it just because.

This book tackles a number of different issues (including the TARP bailouts, Obamacare, unemployment, etc.) and gives perspective on both sides of the issue from recognized experts on said discussion. Really good way to gain a rudimentary understanding of the topic so you can have at least a somewhat informed opinion on the topic.

Be prepared to argue wtih yourself

The text was a required reading for one of my college courses. The book is laid out in a for vs against style for each case study presented. The cases present valid ethical arguments that are pertinent to today's society covering a range of topics including consumer rights, privacy and safety. It's a great research resource as well.
