One wonders how other societies approach relationships, sexuality, raising of young, living in communities, labor and work, violence, deviant behavior, aging, spirituality and religion, and death. This is a society without much in the way of status symbols and without money. If you are seeking to learn about human behavior, you will enjoy this book; it will set you thinking.

About the Author
Tim Burford studied languages at Oxford University. In 1991, after five years as a publisher, he began writing guidebooks for Bradt, firstly on hiking in east-central Europe and then on backpacking and ecotourism in Latin America. He wrote the first three editions of the Bradt guide to Georgia, in 1999, 2002 and 2007, and is delighted to be returning for the fifth edition, and that this remains the definitive guide to the country.

Great book. ‘The’ book for visiting Georgia.....

Great book. ‘The’ book for visiting Georgia ......(?), as it’s up to date, and focuses solely on Georgia.
However, I do hope some small improvements will be made for future editions.

1. Maps: There’s nothing like walking around near Borjomi Park Station with your luggage, in the cold rain, asking people with no English, ‘Bakuriani Marshrutka ?’ Google Maps, thus far, is useless for finding many things – don’t worry, train stations and McDonald’s, yes; information offices and marshrutka stations, no. A very rudimentary map in the book would be great. Without it, all the hotel and restaurant recommendations are useless, unless you find them via the info center or by wandering around, or if you have the patience to enter the addresses into a Google Maps search.

2. A few top 10 lists from different perspectives (different people) would be nice. My favorite experiences in our 7-day stay were the Open Air Ethnological Museum in Tbilisi and the trip up the Military Highway to Kazbegi / Stepantsminda. One was on a friend’s high recommendation; the other a spur of the moment decision. Also, a summer list and a winter list would be great ! Is anything in Borjomi open in the wintertime ? Is it worth a visit in December ? We’ll never know..........

3. Back of the book Index. A more thorough index? It’s a bit short, yes?

4. SIM card advice? Is it in there? Where should I go my first day to buy a local SIM?
(Geocell on Shota Rustaveli? Opposite Wendy’s / Smart Supermarket?)

5. Food Picture Guide? I’m already paying 26 bucks (100 QR) for a guide. Charge $30 and throw in a picture guide? If you miss out on some of the 'exotic' Georgian dishes, you miss a big part of the experience, yes?

I do hope that the author eventually does take the 2.5 hour train ride to Bakuriani, so we all know why it takes 90 minutes more than the marshrutka. Also, I hope the next edition mentions that there are 2 train stations in Borjomi.

All in all, it’s a helpful guide. Keep up the good work !

The book has good quality paper

This is my first Bradt Guide, so I was not sure what to expect. So far I have been pleasantly surprised. The background information is presented in a clear, thoughtful voice. It seems to be written for a less hip reader than Lonely Planet and Rough Guide are...thank goodness.

Except for Blue Guides, I usually think travel guides spend too much space on where to eat and sleep while ignoring the information I really want--what can we do and see there. This guide is no exception, but it does seem to have struck a fair balance between the needs of various types of readers. There are after all, people who want to plan every bit of their trip before they ever leave. They will probably think more hotel/restaurant information is needed.

The book has good quality paper, the maps are clearly printed and the color photos have good color quality and clarity. I had no problems with the organization of the book or in using the index. The list of additional resources is long and interesting. i appreciate the thought that is evident in this list.

I deeply appreciate that there is an entire guide devoted to Georgia.

La escritora Pilar V�lez nos presenta en El expreso del sol unas memorias noveladas de gran impacto. Con un lenguaje claro y po�tico toma la mano del lector y no lo suelta hasta el final. Caminamos la larga y dolorosa trayectoria del personaje de Corintia. Vemos la injusticia, la violencia, la destrucci�n de la familia y del pa�s desde el punto de vista impotente de una ni�a y la perspectiva de una adulta que eval�a y se reconcilia con el pasado. Con una prosa cautivante V�lez le proporciona al lector entrada a la vida y las circunstancias de los desplazados en Colombia. Le permite as� al lector experimentar la atm�sfera de horror e incertidumbre que de una manera u otra han conocido los Latinoamericanos y Caribe�os. En su propuesta, V�lez logra una reconciliaci�n con el pasado necesaria para forjar la persona que se propone ser. De los fragmentos de su vida construye un presente completo desde el que asimila los golpes del pasado y los utiliza para crear un futuro m�s humano y armonioso. Es un libro verdaderamente impactante que nos lleva de punto ...

Es un libro verdaderamente impactante que nos lleva de punto a punto de un pasado lleno de violencia, memorias de conflicto, de dolor, y aun de humor y dulzura. Saliendo de un pa�s de historia sangrienta, vemos como la protagonista Corintia nos conduce en el tren de su vida, y logra superar su pasado y utilizar las enormes dificultades de su trayecto para crear una nueva abundante vida intelectual en el exterior. Al haber crecido tambi�n en Colombia, encuentro que este libro da expresi�n a muchos pensamientos suprimidos y memorias que compartimos todos quienes salimos de una ni�ez de violencia, guerra y desplazo. Es un estupendo libro que nos hace reflexionar sobre nuestras vidas y las vidas de todos los desplazados quienes vemos a diario en las noticias mundiales.

Un viaje a la realidad de muchos

Sin palabras y perdida en un torbellino de emociones me he quedado con la ultima pagina de este maravilloso libro, que me mantuvo intrigada desde la primer a la ultima hoja. Y reh�n de mi lectura desde Requiem hasta Estaci�n del Sol
Pocos libros llegan tan hondo y muchos menos llegan a dejarnos en un silencio de largos pensamientos despu�s de terminados. Tal vez por que conozco personalmente a la escritora, tal vez porque conocerle la cara a la pobreza deja marcas que no se borran y uno aprende a contar solo con uno mismo porque no hay nada mas.
Habra muchos comentarios literarios acerca de este libro, que exaltaran la prosa, el aspecto literario, el lenguaje pero lejos de ser una experta del tema no podr�a mas que recomendar una y otra vez la lectura de esta maravillosa obra.
Para aquellos que nunca tuvieron la desdicha de ser pobres El expreso del sol es una ilustraci�n justa y real de su violencia
Para aquellos que han nacido sumidos en ella, para que sepan que s� es posible desafiar las probabilidades y retar al destino. Tal vez este libro sea un grito de coraje para los que se animen.
Para aquellos que juzgan y generalizan, les servir� para entender que detr�s de cada persona hay una historia que a veces hasta es dif�cil de imaginar.
Y las clases pol�ticas tal ves con estos relatos entiendan que dentro de la pobreza no hay derecha, ni izquierda, ni liberales, ni conservadores sino hambre y violencia.

would like more specific checklists for students Information was good overall, but the writing style was extremely technical. It was hard for me to sgtay focused...I wonder how undergrads would do!? Practical and informative from a diagnostic as well as management perspective; the only "stand alone" text for dysphagia. Very well organized, good clinically relevant chapters, wide range of experts. Much improved over previous edition; glad to see a section on MBS; would like to see swallowing problems in TBI discussed. The "edited" nature (vs. "authored") of the book makes it less appropriate for students -- they need a systematic and integrated text; good reference.
