This process is the basis of computer graphics, Bruce Artwick's Flight Simulator computer program, TV graphics, morphs, and how living things differ in shape. This is an important piece of mathematics and in the process Don's students do a lot of arithmetic (multiplying and adding), use coordinate or Cartesian geometry - it's very visual, and they learn how to multiply matrices. When Don saw drawings of transformations from D'Arcy Thompson's book On Growth and Form, first published in 1917, used in a book on computer graphics, published in 1987, he knew he was doing something important and headed in the right direction! -- From the Publisher

About the Author
Don Cohen was born in Jersey City, N.J. He has a B.A. and M.A. from SUNY-Albany, NY and M.S.from RPI,in Troy, NY. He has taught all ages of students for 44 years, the last 22 of these as co-founder and teacher of The Math Program. After 7 years of teaching in a junior high school, he realized there must be a more enjoyable and effective way to teach math. He searched for alternatives. This led to designing new curriculum for N.Y. State; learning about mathematics and creativity from Bob Davis with The Madison Project; learning what real teaching is about by observing great teachers such as Sue Monell; teaching teachers; working on Plato (a computer-based education system at the U of I); all before Don and his partner invented The Math Program. These are the good old days! Don has three fine sons and six terrific grandchildren. He is a watercolor artist (see cover).

I love this book! Not just a collection of pretty pictures of gardens, (although there are lots of them) this book actually helps you to think through your own designs. Tons of clever ideas provide a starting point, and her helpful hints can save you from a great many "learning" experiences figuring out why what you have isn't what you want.

Is there not a better Info Sys book?

Disappointingly out of date already (e.g. Ipods) but that's a given with most tech based books. What's really disapponting is the attempt to suggest common economic and business ideas as something only Information System instead of using them to show how Info Sys can benefit them. My instructor had to bounce throughout the book to keep topics together where the books presents as a little gain spread across chapters.

Five stars for a textbook!

Rented this textbook for a computer science class. Though it was mandatory reading, this was one of the easier textbooks to get through. Each chapter was easy to digest and understand, used real life examples to illustrate points and had plenty of discussion questions that led you to think like a manager about information technology in business, and it wasn't a pain to carry around as it is paperback.

I enjoyed this smart style writing where multiple different stories all intersect. The characters in the book made me laugh and made me cry. I completely enjoyed reading about the setting since I am very familiar with that part of the Bay Area. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future!

About the Author
Yaakov Astor, Editor-in-Chief of Zman Magazine, has written, co-written or edited more than twenty-five books. His two most recent books are The Hidden Hand The Holocaust and The Hidden Hand: Uncovering Divine Providence in Major Events of the 20th Century.

A former yeshiva teacher and principal, he was also editor of Nehemiah and Trei Asar, Vol. 1, in the ArtScroll Tanach Series. He has published numerous articles over the years in Yated Ne eman, Hamodia, Mishpacha, The Jewish Observer and other publications.

He has worked with Rabbi Joseph Elias, shlit a, on producing the Holocaust Curriculum for Torah Umesorah and is currently working with Rabbi Berel Wein producing an online Jewish History course for the Destiny Foundation.

He is also Deputy Director for Zechor Yemos Olam, the Holocaust education branch of Torah Umesorah. In this capacity, he helps develop and administer the ZYO Fellowships, a year-long online course that teaches the teachers how to teach the Holocaust.

Pure Rav Miller on Torah True Faith and Trust in G-d

If you want to learn everything Rabbi Miller has to say on faith and trust in G-d, this is the right book for you. It is written in the style of how he speaks. I found it very inspirational, and I can see myself rereading it a few times to reinforce the principles.

This year, at my daughers' school's annual mother's melaveh malka, an incredible speaker was brought in who spoke on the topic of Emunah and Bitachon. I hope I can say she changed my life. At the conclusion of her speech she encouraged the audience to go out and purchase a sefer on Emunah and read from it daily, because without that it's impossible to keep up a real level of emunah.

Well, I unfortunately spend too much time on my phone, so I figured why not get some positive use out of it? Instead of buying a physical sefer, I purchased the Kindle version of Rav Avigdor Miller on Emunah and Bitachon.

If you have listened to Rav Avigdor Miller's shiurim, you will recognize him in this book. It is not written by him, rather it is a compilation of questions and answers from his Thursday night shiurim, grouped by topic. Each topic is given a brief introduction by the author of this book.

Rav Avigdor Miller was unique, and his teachings on emunah and bitachon are incredible. I highly recommend purchasing this book, and reading from it daily. You will benefit, I can guarantee it! Just reading it will change your actions and eventually your life. When I miss a few days, I can tell the difference!

You have to be smart

It's a Turkish grammar, rather than a primer for a complete beginner.
It was written for Princeton students who must be a very intelligent bunch. Sometimes the English is hard to follow and you have to be smart to understand it.. It's full of sentences like "the infinitives - common or light- may govern the objective definite suffix , or other appropriate suffixes, on preceding substantives, just as do finite verb forms." and "the common infinitive with the following combinations of two suffixes (1) the ablative suffix (2) the conditional suffix, means....."
It may be a little out of date. It says the lira contains a hundred kurus. Maybe things move slowly in Princeton.
I think it might be helpful for someone who had learned to talk Turkish in an ungrammatical way - maybe lives in Turkey- and wanted to become more correct. There are no tapes.

seems okay but i lost interest

I lost interest halfway through this book. It's not bad, but I guess I was expecting starting with more conversational phrases instead of rules of language. There were a lot of exercises for which I would flip back to try to figure out what each word meant and occasionally get frustrated when a new word not previously defined was introduced. Sorry I didn't finish it. I will bring it on my trip though.
